Art Mirror, Hand Held Decorative Art Mirror, Radiant Reflections, Decadently Rich And Luxurious Vanity Mirror. Something old something new, something embellished just for you! You will feel "Red Carpet Ready" when you look into this magnificent art mirror. There is definitely an air of Hollywood about it.

This mirror was designed and made by hand by me in my Maine Studio. It has all the glamorous overtones tones of the rich and famous. Decadent gold and black vintage jewelry and buttons sparkle anew with black and gold crystals and pearls. There is an air of mystery surrounding this beautiful creation. I call it " Dragonfly in the Midnight Garden.

The round beveled mirror is 5 " (12.7cm) in diameter. It measures over all 9.5 " (24.13cm) in over all length. I have used vintage jewelry and buttons from my beautiful collection of vintage estate and flea market finds. This is an art mirror. It may be used, but should be treated with care.

The mirror comes beautifully gifted in a black box with a soft chiffon "pillow" insert. (see sample 5) and a clear view cover. The presentation is in keeping with the luxurious art inside.

This is a limited edition of one. It is OOAK. There are no other mirrors assembled that are the same. In college and graduate school, assemblage was one of my favorite art forms of expression.

This mirror and the new single editions of the ones that will follow reflect my love of color, contrast, texture, and form. It also embraces my sentimental attachment to vintage jewelry and buttons. Buttons and jewelry remind me of hours spent in my childhood playing with buttons in old fruitcake tins, and my mother's "magnificent" collection of costume jewelry.

In creating the art mirrors, I feel like I am stepping back in time to that wonderful childhood place of endless imagination and fantasy, reminiscent of playing "dress up". The mirror is crafted with meticulous care and attention to detail, in a style reminiscent of art nouveau.

The Art Nouveau style of art and design became popular during the late 1800s and continued to influence architecture, metalwork, textiles, interior design and jewelry until 1919. The period overlapped both the Victorian and Edwardian periods and was looked down upon by proponents of both eras. The traditional Victorians and Edwardians found the celebration of nature, the sensual word and the female form that was frequent in Art Nouveau jewelry to be shameful and decadent, which only contributed to its popularity.Unlike the jewelry of the Victorian and Edwardian styles, Art Nouveau jewelry used less-expensive materials so that the pieces were more affordable. Rather than using costly gems and precious metals, jewelry designers incorporated horn, ivory, moonstones, peridot and topaz. While the affordability made the jewelry popular with the public, it also contributed to the decline of the Art Nouveau style. Over-commercialization and mass-production in the 1900s led to the movement's end in 1919. Art Nouveau jewelry features motifs that highlight feminine freedom and eroticism, changing seasons, mythical influences and the passion within nature. A motif that is commonly found on an Art Nouveau brooch is a partially clothed woman with long, flowing hair being transformed into a winged figure. Mythical creatures including serpents, sea creatures and dragons are also popular features in Art Nouveau jewelry. Though the movement ended in the early 20th century, it created a lasting influence on jewelry design. Art Nouveau antique jewelry is very popular with collectors today. A striking Art Nouveau ring or necklace can give your modern jewelry collection a unique and historical twist.
